Born Vidya Balan on January 1, 1979 in Maharashtra, India. Her father P.R Balan is the executive vice president of Digicable and her mother Saraswathy is a homemaker. She has an elder sister named Priya Balan and a cousin Priyamani who is also an actress. She grew up in Mumbai where she attended St. Anthony Girls high School for her high school education. She went to Xavier’s College where she got her bachelor’s degree in Sociology and also obtained a masters degree from the University of Mumbai.
Vidya got her first role in the Sitcom Hum Paanch in 1995 and made her film debut in the Bengali film Bhalo Theko in 2003.
She has been known for roles in movies such as; Dirty Picture, Paa, No One Killed Jessica, Ishqiya, and Kahaani.
Vidya Balan got married to Siddharth Roy Kapur, in a private ceremony in Bandra Mumbai on December 14, 2012. Her husband is the CEO of UTV Motion Pictures. She on the other side, trained in Carnatic music and studied the dance form of Bharatnayam and Kathak.
She won the Best Actress at National film award in 2011, and Best Female debut at Seven Filmfare Awards.
